On Thursday, July 17, 2025, the Ba Ria – Vung Tau Provincial Museum and Library hosted the event “The Sound of Math”, organized by MAPP. The event explored the theme “Music in Mathematics”, featuring interactive activities designed to spark creativity and logical thinking among children.
Under the innovative guidance of MAPP members, participants experienced a dynamic and inspiring summer session where mathematics met music. More than 40 students and children embarked on a truly unique journey:
-
Exploring the harmony of numbers and sound: Children learned how numerical ratios can create musical notes, discovering the fascinating connection between math and melody.
-
Engaging in the math game “Picture Chase”: A playful activity that combined fun with intellectual challenge, enhancing reasoning and problem-solving skills.
-
Discovering Pythagoras’ legacy: Participants delved into the ancient mathematician’s groundbreaking insight—that when string lengths follow simple ratios such as 1:2, 2:3, or 3:4, they produce harmonious sounds. This principle laid the foundation for the Western musical scale.
As a special feature, the children collaboratively crafted the “Pythagoras Piano,” a simple yet meaningful model inspired by the ideas of Pythagoras, symbolizing the intersection of science and art.
These handmade instruments are now proudly displayed in the Children’s Room of the Provincial Library, serving as a testament to the creativity and curiosity nurtured during the event.
